The last couple of weeks have given me some chances to experience campaigning and talking with the people of Wyoming. While I never pictured myself being on the campaign trail, I found it very enjoyable connecting with folks.
On Thursday, September 25 we had “Get to know the candidates night”, organized by Melissa Monich and April Robles on the Village Green. It was a good introduction for a newbie candidate to have a chat with folks and begin to practice sharing who he was and what he stood for.
This past Saturday we had the Wyoming fall festival, one of Wyoming’s great traditions. This offered seven more hours of enjoyable conversations with many Wyoming residents. It was great meeting several new folks as well as connecting with lots of old friends who stopped by.
The third opportunity is the hanging of door tags out in the community. The good fall weather has lots of people out and it has been great getting to talk with so many. It does, however, look like I need to double or triple the amount of time I had allotted to this task!!😬
In several of those conversations, I was struck with the engagement and passion of our community members around a variety of topics. This energy is the key to a successful, efficient local government. Embracing and empowering these folks will help in pursuing important improvements to the community. As a council member I will be actively looking for these connections.
In the role of council member, good communication with the people of Wyoming is vital. I look forward to many more of these opportunities over the next couple of years.
Peace
Bill
